Biography
Oliver Mathenge is a seasoned storyteller with 18 years of experience crafting compelling narratives across various media. He specialises in leveraging digital strategies and editorial expertise to build audiences, enhance brands, and drive revenue through authentic storytelling that resonates with target audiences. Oliver is a co-founder and managing partner at StrategiCrest Ltd in Nairobi, Kenya, where he leads the design and implementation of integrated communication and content strategies tailored for diverse audiences. At the firm, he crafts storytelling strategies and conducts communication and media training for various clients to deepen their understanding and knowledge of modern communication methods to reach target audiences on digital platforms effectively. Oliver is also currently working with Oxygéne Marketing & Communication Ltd in Nairobi as an Editorial, Digital & Production Consultant, where he collaborates with the team to enhance editorial, digital, and production processes for a wide range of client projects, ensuring the highest quality and accuracy in all deliverables. His expertise includes developing storytelling frameworks for diverse projects, and he also provides Communication Skills and Media Training. Previously, Oliver served as the Managing Editor (Audiences and Engagement) at Nation Media Group in Nairobi, where he oversaw digital publishing and social strategy for Nation Media Group brands, deepened focus and insight sharing within the integrated newsroom, led the use of analytics and audience insights, and implemented brand-specific paywall strategies to drive revenue, increase brand reach, and optimise customer conversion journeys. Before this, he held the position of Multimedia Editor at the broadcasting division of Nation Media Group, leading digital operations and directing daily journalism operations across broadcast digital platforms and social media accounts, while serving as the lead focal point for all matters concerning broadcast digital products and services. Prior to joining Nation Media Group, Oliver was the Digital Editor at Radio Africa Group, responsible for ensuring outstanding, timely, accurate, and compelling content across Radio Africa’s digital platforms including The Star, Mpasho, Kiss 100, Classic 105, and Radio Jambo, where he led editorial teams in adopting a digital-first approach, managed the digital editorial workforce, and prepared quarterly and annual digital strategy plans and performance reports. Oliver’s journalism career began as a News Journalist at Nation Media Group, where he developed news and feature stories primarily in politics and current affairs for publication in the Daily Nation, Saturday Nation, Sunday Nation, and Taifa Newspapers, while also contributing content to other NMG platforms including the website and radio and actively participating in the day-to-day development of new news ideas.
